If you find yourself out shopping this month on Oʻahu, consider a visit to Macy’s Waikīkī, where you can round up your purchase for a good cause.
Now through the end of September, shoppers can support Mālama Maunalua, a nonprofit working to restore the Maunalua Bay on the east side of the island, by donating up to the nearest dollar at checkout.
Located at 2314 Kalākaua Ave. in Honolulu, Macy’s Waikīkī has done different round up campaigns throughout the year, but said that this time was different since the local store got to choose its beneficiary.
“Typically, our social impact team handles the selection, but for this one, stores were given the opportunity to select a local nonprofit,” the retailer told ASD by emailed statement. “The funds are paid out after the campaign is complete.”
The store first learned about the organization through an employee who is active in the local community, it said, noting that the total dollar amount raised from the last round-up campaign was not immediately available.
When asked how and when Mālama Maunalua would receive the funds raised toward their mission, Macy’s Waikīkī shared a snippet of its legal agreement with ASD in response: "Sponsor will keep complete and accurate records of amounts donated by customers in participating stores. Donated funds will be delivered to Charity by January 1, 2027.”
“Maunalua Bay is part of what makes Oʻahu so special, and caring for our ocean is a responsibility shared by everyone who lives here and visits our Islands,” said Kapa Gormley, manager of business administration at Macy’s Waikīkī, in a statement. “Mālama Maunalua’s work directly benefits our community while giving our customers an opportunity to make a difference. We are proud to use our store as a place where residents, visitors and Macy’s colleagues can come together in support of a healthier ocean.”
Doug Harper, executive director of Mālama Maunalua, said that every contribution is an “investment in the future of Maunalua Bay.”
“This partnership with Macy’s Waikīkī gives residents and visitors an easy way to turn an everyday purchase into a meaningful act of stewardship,” he continued.

Funds raised through this campaign will allow Mālama Maunalua to continue its work improving "the health and resilience of Maunalua Bay through community stewardship, environmental education and collaborative restoration initiatives,” per the organization.
“Contributions like these, especially from our visitors, can add up to real support for hands-on restoration, education, and community engagement needed to ensure the bay remains healthy for generations to come,” Harper said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful to Macy’s Waikīkī and its customers for supporting our mission and demonstrating what is possible when businesses and communities come together to care for Hawaiʻi.”
The nonprofit has also benefited from the direct deposit distribution program with Aloha United Way's Workplace Giving Campaign and the Give Aloha program at Foodland Hawaiʻi, according to Harper.
