Mosa!, known for its ice cream desserts with a shaven peanut brittle topping, just opened at SALT At Our Kakaʻako. It’s in the former space of 9Bar HNL, which closed in July.

While this location just opened on Sept. 18, business owner Mickey Morikawa explains he and his business partners — Jason Lin and Masaki Sakurai — have been trying to open this location since the first Mosa! store opened in Waikīkī in February 2024.

“A lot of people don’t want to come into Waikīkī,” Morikawa says. “I’m excited to launch our product (here in Kakaʻako). Now that we’re coming a little closer to town, it’s exciting.”

The Kakaʻako store is open for 16 hours — the longest of its three locations, according to Morikawa.

“We’re open for 16 hours, 8 a.m. to midnight every day,” he confirms.

Customers can still find Mosa!’s signature desserts, including its Mosa wraps ($10.95 mini, $12.95 regular) — two or three ice cream flavors with peanut sprinkle, wrapped in a crepe and topped with a strawberry — and Mosa cups ($6.95 to $9.95), which feature ice cream scoops served in cute flower pot cups. Choose from 12 ice cream flavors, including mint chip, the newest flavor; Kona coffee; ube; matcha; and cookies and cream.

“At the Waikīkī location, we sell a tub of honeydew mochi every day,” Morikawa says. “Kona coffee, cookies and cream, and ube are also popular.”

Customers can choose toppings like Mosa!’s signature peanut brittle or opt for newer options like macadamia nut or pistachio.

New menu items include coffee and matcha ($8.95). Customers can choose a base — coffee or matcha — as well as a foam (macadamia, peanut, pistachio or ube) and add optional toppings.

“Our menu is a little different compared to the first location (in Waikīkī); we tried to make it a little cleaner and simpler,” Morikawa says. “Our matcha is pure matcha from Shizuoka in Japan.”

Customers can enhance their coffee by adding peanut sprinkles (complimentary) or macadamia and pistachio sprinkles ($1 each).

“The most popular foam would be the ube foam and macadamia nut foam,” Morikawa says. “I think a lot of people have been hesitant (to try it), but the pistachio and peanut foams are really good as well. My favorite combo is matcha with peanut foam and pistachio sprinkles.”

Mosa! has two other locations in Waikīkī and at Puck’s Alley. The business is hoping to open another location next year, according to Morikawa.

“The next thing we wean to do is go closer to the people on the West Side,” he says. “That’s hopefully the next goal.”
