HI93ʻs second annual Local Break Battle of the Bands will hold its finale and name a winner on Friday, Nov. 6, at Capitol Modern. The four finalists will compete ahead of a performance from the First Friday headliner, Natural Vibrations.
The winner of the contest takes home eight hours of studio time, a free mix and master with Le Vanta Records and $1,500.
“Capitol Modern’s First Fridays are no joke,” said Austin Correia, who is spearheading the project and is an event coordinator and media consultant for Pacific Media Group. “They get packed and the energy is next level. I'm excited to see how each band performs in those conditions and how they will feed off of that energy.”
The first two rounds of competition took place at Secret Spot Honolulu. From six bands, four advanced to the finale: The Ukus, Smerkk & Co., Rootz of Kreation and The Mauve.
Sponsors of the event include Pacific Media Group, Hele Gas, Aloha State Daily, Le Vanta Records and Capitol Modern.
“The biggest difference this year is the diversity in acts,” Correia told ASD via email. “HI93 stands for more than Reggae music although it's a lot of what we play we truly are Hawaiʻi's Local Hits and that means we want to showcase all of the talent in Hawaiʻi from reggae to indie to ska/punk and much more. I feel this year showcases that more than ever.”
There will be open galleries and pop-up artists, as well as food vendors. Free. Details.
