Linaka’s Catering offers twisted potatoes

The biz is known for its Puerto Rican and Hawaiian food, but the vendor started selling twisted potatoes — or spiral-shaped potatoes — earlier this year. So far, the business’s Ovah Load potato — topped with a secret sauce, sour cream, cheese and bacon bits — has been the most popular one.

Linaka’s Catering is popular for its Puerto Rican and Hawaiian food, but this vendor started selling twisted potatoes, or spiral-shaped potatoes, earlier this year.

The idea was inspired by a video that business owner Shy Castillo’s daughter found on TikTok.

“My daughter came up with the flavors (for these potatoes),” Castillo says. “We’ll always have this and our Hawaiian food here at this market.

“We’ve been in business since 2015,” she adds.

So far, the Ovah Load ($13) is the most popular option. It features a secret sauce, sour cream, cheese and bacon.

Other flavors include Parmesan (secret sauce, sour cream and Parmesan) and Hot Topic with secret sauce, sour cream, cheese, lime and Hot Cheetos.

“We’ll be coming out with different flavors,” Castillo says. “This is just the beginning. Our spiral potatoes look like elotes, but they’re not.”

You can currently find Linaka’s Catering at the Ono Grindz & Mākeke Market on Thursday at Wai Kai. Ono Grindz & Mākeke’s last day at Wai Kai will be on Thursday, June 25.

Follow the biz on Instagram to see where they’ll be popping up on Oʻahu.
