Aloha Tofu Factory is celebrating Aloha Tofu Day with $1 tofu.
While Aloha Tofu Day is technically on Oct. 2, Aloha Tofu Factory will be featuring $1 tofu from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1.
“We won’t do it on Oct. 2 because it’s a Friday and we have deliveries,” says Paul Uyehara, Aloha Tofu Factory president. “We will do it (the discounted tofu) on Thursday; people will be happy to get $1 tofu.”
The business’s signature firm tofu ($3 factory price) and soft tofu ($3.60 factory price) will be sold for $1 per block; limit five blocks per customer.
Customers can pre-order online from Sept. 22 to 28. Day-of walk-in orders will still be accepted on Oct. 1.
Everyone who visits on Oct. 1 will have the chance to enter to win a gift basket and a $76 gift card to Foodland Hawaiʻi.
“We’re just asking for everybody’s patience,” Uyehara says. “Everybody was wonderful last year.”
Aloha Tofu Factory will also soon be launching its brand-new factory tours to the public. Starting in November, hour-long factory tours will be on the first and second Thursday of each month. Individuals can book the tours online at alohatofu.com; tours will be offered in Japanese (first Thursday) and English (second Thursday).
During the factory tours, attendees will learn more about the business’s history, how tofu is made, and sample yaki tofu and yudofu. Yudofu, which is only available at the factory, has a lighter, delicate texture, compared to firm tofu. Guests will also get to watch the factory production, and make their own handcrafted tofu.
Tours cost $25 per adult and $12 for children ages 12 years and under (children ages 6 years and under have free admission). Select November dates are now available for booking. Tour spots are limited, since group sizes are small.
