Brug Bakery’s annual pastry sale is back on Friday, July 3.

The Japanese-style bakery — which originally opened in Hokkaido, Japan in 1977 — is celebrating its 13th anniversary in Hawaiʻi. Its first location opened at Shirokiya in Ala Moana Center in July 2013; its newest location in Kapolei opened this past February.

To celebrate the business’s anniversary, Brug Bakery will offer all pastries for $3 each on Friday, July 3. All locations will be open at 8 a.m., except for The Lānai store at Ala Moana Center, which opens at 8:30 a.m.

Pastries will be available on a first-come, first-served basis (no pre-orders); limit 12 pastries per person. To keep the lines moving quickly, all Brug locations will not be offering bread loaves that day. Discounts or reward points will also be unavailable on July 3.

“We will have the same products that we produce every day, but they’re all going to be $3 each,” confirms Alberto Fernandez, Brug Bakery co-owner and vice president. “Our main focus will be on serving high-quality pastries and re-stocking shelves constantly.”

Pastries usually cost $3.25 to $5 each. Popular options include the sausage roll, custard pan, Kuma (bear-shaped) choco custard, Hokkaido anpan and beef curry pan.

“We are so humbled and grateful to our wonderful local customers who have been so loyal to Brug Bakery all these years,” states Brug co-owner, president and CEO Miho Choi Fernandez. “After all these years of offering our pastries for $2 on our anniversary, we sincerely apologize for having to raise the price to $3 this year. Costs have gone up so much, and we hope our customers will understand. We will always work hard to provide the highest quality and freshest products to continue to deserve our customers’ loyalty, trust and patronage.”

The first 130 customers at each location will get a chance to enter a giveaway. Six winners — one for each bakery location — will win a $130 Brug gift card; winners will be chosen at random and notified on July 4.

The business is also continuing its Brug community program, in which it donates pastries to local non-profit organizations every month. Brug Bakery has donated pastries to more than 100 Hawaiʻi-based nonprofit organizations since its first anniversary in July 2014.

“I cannot believe we made it this far already,” Fernandez says. “[Our anniversary has] become a staple celebration of the summer; it’s something that our customers are already looking forward to. It’s also a day to show appreciation to the community that comes throughout the year. It’s our way of saying ‘thank you.’”
